Almond Milk

If we're connected on Instagram you may have seen that I start my mornings with a green smoothie. One of the key ingredients in my smoothies is almond milk. I started drinking almond milk as a dairy alternative because I'm lactose intolerant. As with many things in the food industry, over time manufacturers find ways to make products cheaper, faster, and in many cases with more chemicals.
There are dozens of almond milk brands on the shelves now and the taste can vary significantly between them all. That led me to question - what is in this stuff?
Naturally, Hey Fran Hey came to the rescue with her latest post on making fresh almond milk. The process is quicker and easier than you might think. I made my first batch this weekend and will definitely be making more. It is sweet and creamy, yet lighter than the brand I purchase in stores.
Take a few minutes and check out her video below. She includes research on questionable chemicals commonly found in store brand almond milk as well as a recommended option for those of you who aren't into the DIY thing.

P.S. I used the same recipe but added two dates for sweetness. You can grab a nut milk bag from Whole Foods or Trader Joes for a couple bucks.

As my motto goes, less is more - especially when it comes to what you're putting in your body.
Ciao and happy Sunday!
